How this lineup is put together
Only batting statistics from first-team official games are used. The nine players are chosen by how many runs they created per plate appearance, and players with few plate appearances are held back in proportion to how few they have.
Positions are decided from the number of games each player appeared at that position. A slot with no player who fits is shown as a dash. How well a player fields is not measured, so this is separate from how clubs actually field their sides. The ninth slot is the pitcher in the Central League lineup (placed as the league-average pitcher, with no name), and the designated hitter in the Pacific League and all-twelve-club lineups.
The order is arranged on the premise that the batter with the most extra-base hits takes the third or the fourth spot. The pitcher is fixed in the ninth spot. For the rest of the batters, the expected-runs calculation takes the arrangement that yields the most runs.
