How to read this table
The payroll is the figure published before the season. During the season it is prorated to the games played before dividing.
Whether a figure is large or small depends on squad-building policy, the size of the home market, the years left on multi-year deals, promotions from the developmental squad and much else. This table does not explain any of that; it simply lays out the division of published totals by official results.
