Most Wins

Overview

The Most Wins title is awarded to the pitcher recording the most victories in a season. In NPB, the winning threshold typically falls around 15, though in pitcher-dominant years, 12 to 13 wins may suffice. Masaichi Kaneda's career 400 wins stands as an unreachable record in modern baseball. Since win totals depend on run support and bullpen performance, sabermetrics has increasingly criticized wins as an inaccurate measure of individual pitching ability. Pitchers with excellent ERA and FIP but few wins appear every season. Nevertheless, win totals retain significance among fans and media as an indicator of a pitcher's reliability in producing team victories.
