Overview
Winning percentage is calculated as wins divided by total decisions (wins plus losses). In NPB, ties are excluded from the calculation, so teams with many ties have fewer decisions relative to games played, potentially distorting their winning percentage. The Central League briefly used win totals rather than winning percentage for standings from 2001, but has since reverted to the winning percentage system. Individual pitcher winning percentage (wins divided by decisions) has its own title award, though it is heavily influenced by run support and bullpen performance, making it an unreliable measure of a pitcher's true ability.
