Batting Title

Overview

The batting title is awarded to the player with the highest batting average among those reaching the qualifying plate appearance threshold. NPB's threshold is team games multiplied by 3.1, yielding 443 plate appearances in a 143-game season. Ichiro and Isao Harimoto share the record with seven batting titles each. The batting title race becomes a major storyline in the season's final weeks, sometimes undecided until the last game. Seasons above .350 are rare, and no NPB batter has ever reached .400. With the recent trend toward pitcher dominance, batting averages above .300 now typically contend for the title.
