Overview
An error is recorded when a fielder fails to handle a batted ball or throw that should have been made with ordinary effort. Runs scored due to errors are not counted as earned runs, so they don't affect a pitcher's ERA. In NPB, error counts are considered in Golden Glove Award selections. Recently, metrics like UZR that evaluate defensive range and contribution beyond simple error counts have gained popularity.
