Overview
Slugging percentage is calculated by dividing total bases (single=1, double=2, triple=3, home run=4) by at-bats. Unlike batting average, it assigns higher value to extra-base hits, so power hitters record higher numbers. In NPB, .500 or above is considered excellent. Despite containing 'percentage' in its name, it can exceed 1.000 (4.000 if every at-bat were a home run). Combined with OBP to form OPS, it is widely used in player evaluation.
