Posting System

Overview

The posting system allows NPB players to transfer to MLB before earning free agent rights. When a team approves a player's posting, all MLB teams can negotiate. Upon successful transfer, the NPB team receives a release fee. The system was reformed in 2013 from a bidding system to a fixed-fee structure. Shohei Ohtani, Yu Darvish, and Masahiro Tanaka all used this system to move to MLB.
