OPS (On-base Plus Slugging)

Overview

OPS is simply the sum of on-base percentage and slugging percentage. Despite its simplicity, it correlates strongly with run production and has become widely adopted for evaluating overall offensive ability. In NPB, .800+ is considered good, .900+ excellent, and 1.000+ MVP-caliber. However, its equal weighting of OBP and SLG has theoretical limitations, which led to the development of the more precise wOBA metric.
